I do declare, it IS one of the top 10 children's zoo!!!

Saturday morning...ugh, more rain. Are you kidding me? We are suppposed to go to the season opening of the Fort Wayne Children's Zoo today. But oh, could there be a brief break in the weather to still go and not get soaked?
Well, thanks to mother nature, there was a brief, and I say again, BRIEF break in the rain and so, off we went....umbrellas and jackets in tow. We weren't in the zoo 5 minutes and it began to rain again. Say la ve...we were going to deal with the wetness of the day and just enjoy our tour.

I have to say, I'm so glad we purchased the family membership. The zoo was so clean and fun and so much bigger than the Richmond Zoo. Even with the rain, we had a B-L-A-S-T!!!! I can't wait to go back.
The Sea Lion Tank
These little guys were so fun to watch. They would come up to the window and stand up on their tails so they could see you eye to eye.

One of the newest members of the Zoo. This is the new baby giraffe. It weighs 150 pounds and is 9 feet tall.

When you go "down under" at the zoo, you have the option to ride a canoe around the outback. Animals just sort of roam the area and when you are finished with your canoe ride, you can walk through the outback and see the new Dingo pups, birds and of course, kangaroos!

Evidently, the peacocks own the zoo. They walk every where. You just never know when one might show up for a kodak moment. This one joined us as we were looking at owls. He just grabbed a seat on the railing next to the exhibit.

Matthew is walking through one of the several bird aviaries.

Matthew's favorite animal...Penguins!

This was fun and went past the African Safari area of the zoo. We got lucky, the rain stopped just long enough for us to enjoy this without getting soaked!

I hope that the next time you visit, the Zoo will be open and you can have just as much fun as we did. And if you have a hard time reaching Matthew and I this summer, well, I imagine you can guess where we'll be!!!

Butterflies, Flowers, and History...Oh My!

Saturday we enjoyed a family day. We took a few hours to explore downtown Fort Wayne. It was so clean and windy.....but overall, a very nice area of town. I can't wait until the Barr Street Market opens and we can get fresh from the farm fruits and veggies!!! We took the time to explore the Foellinger-Freimann Botanical Conservatory and The History Center. http://www.botanicalconservatory.org/ and http://www.fwhistorycenter.com/

What beautiful flowers were inside the conservatory. It was wierd seeing so much inside while it was still chilly outside. The conservatory also had a butterfly display where you could enter a tent and they flew all around you. Before you could exit, a volunteer would check to make sure you didn't have any butterflies attached to you. Matthew took his camera and between the two of us, we got some really good pictures. Take a look....

Matthew also was able to get a picture of this rainbow inside one of the waterfalls.

I snapped this shot. While the flowers aren't the brightest. They are called Crown of Thorns. You can see the thorns on the vine within the flowers. Matthew asked me if this is what they made Jesus wear when he carried his cross.

This was called an Angel's Trumpet Tree.

It was so much fun seeing all these beautiful flowers and butterflies and then learning a little about the history of Fort Wayne.

Here's some pictures from The History Center.

Maybe the next time you come to visit, we can take you on your own tour of downtown....

Everyone gets a ride...

It's officially quiet in the Evoy house. All the dust has settled and we are back to our normal routine. I really enjoyed spending time with my family and I want to thank them all for making the long trek to the midwest.

If you recall, when Mandy was visiting, she was able to get a ride on the carousel at the mall- well, you know that I had to take my parents for the same ride! No visit is complete without some good ol' fashion family fun!!!

We also had a great time at the Komet's ice hockey game and the TinCap's baseball game.

So, if you feel you are missing out on all the good stuff the Fort has to offer, you'd better start packing before the guest bed fills up again!!! We can't wait to see you...

Mandy and Adam

After waiting what seemed like forever, Greg, Ashley, Mandy and Adam finally arrived at our house on Wed, March 31st. What fun it was to see all of them. Adam is the most adorable baby, ugh, I'm going to miss him growing up but alas, that's the way the cookie crumbles and besides, with today's technology, I won't be too far away.

I tried to take the time Thursday to show the gang the highlights of Fort Wayne. Our first stop was the Easter Bunny at the mall for pictures. Then if you're at the mall, you have to ride the carusel, right?

Time for lunch at Steak n Shake....can I get a YUM! Then a drive around town to show off the cool stuff The Fort has to offer. Of course, this road trip had to end in a stop at the local park to play. The weather was wonderful and I think a good time was had by all.

Today they are off to Iowa but I'll see them one more time before they head back to the east coast.

Meanwhile, time to give the house a once over since my parents come into town on Saturday evening. Round two of houseguests...naw, I'm not complaining...I'm loving it!
